7 years ago, I returned to Texas.
Leasing the shop was the inspiration and the needed catalyst. I found the ad on Craigslist while researching property in East Texas. My LA apartment had been sublet on and off for two years and I was on year 14 of my original 5yr plan in Cali…it was my sign. My decision to move home was made by leasing the shop (from Atlanta) while on location for a show. This set my trajectory in motion! My shop vision created the space to envision myself home. Ideas blossoming in my mind conjured up from the potential, I said yes without hesitation. It was perfect, the size, the location, and the rent. I’d always loved Edom, including our family history there.
In 7 years in Edom, I've experienced 7 Edom Arts Festivals including the 50th anniversary.
This is my most enjoyed time in Edom. The reflection of this annual, awe-inspiring weekend…and how I felt being included within this talented group of artists, adding my unique vision, resonated deeply. The feedback during Festival was unmeasured validation in all my years gutting myself working under others on shows in the shadows. The ability to express myself as myself and this to others was a zenith. I will forever live with this in my full heart.

Spring plans involve relocation of Cade Republic to my grandmother’s beauty shop in Chandler, with memories of Rosa Cade, her wisdom and entrepreneurial spirit.
I will forever miss hosting in the Edom shop making connections over deep conversations, and Edom Arts Festival. Alas, times change and 7 years creating my safe space taught me more than I even have awareness of…and those lessons will help us create our safe space in Chandler. My Edom chapter may close at the end of May, but the Chandler chapter is evolving! Come see me there indefinitely. Our vision there builds on 100 years of family legacy and oak grove.

Edom is doing exciting things, and I plan to frequent Log Cabin jams and Firehouse Acoustic Series concerts. The opening of 03 Collective was a smashing success, with Edom Art House and the Shed coming in hot soon! Kerian and I have a plan for an inclusive messaged mural when the time is right. And you better believe, I will grandmother in a clause that allows me to sit on the shop porch during EAF and greet all our Edom Arts Festival friends! (EAF is 2nd weekend of October annually.) I will miss being one of y’all dearly. Thank you, Beth, Zeke and Jeff, Joe and Angela.
PS: In 7 my years home I have seen: slowing down, reconnection to family and nature, 10mo. on Hawaii, coming full circle with Extreme, two miscarriages + losing steam for the grind of travel work, building a network here, the restart of healing my soul and body, #metoo, the Pandemic, two presidents, woman vice president, a divided United States over the right to personal freedoms, my 7yr relationship with Tim and all three of my beloved Edom shop neighbors losing their life partners.
